Week of 1/4/10
"These plans are based on the best prediction of what we hope to accomplish for this week. Please note, that these plans will vary from time to time because of various interruptions (fire drills, assemblies, etc.) and that we want to make sure students master material, before we move on to new concepts."

I have decided to hold off on the Biography essay. This weekend students are to use their LA Books (pages 106-114) to draft a final copy of their Comparison-Contrast Essay. It is due on Tuesday 1/12/10. They can hand print it or do it on a computer.

Friday 1/8/10 - Idea web due
Monday 1/11/10 - Sloppy copy due
Wednesday 1/13/10 - Revised copy due
Friday 1/15/10 - Final copy due

Language Arts:
Monday: SSR Continue doing adjective coding

History:
Monday- Students will take notes on the original patriarchs of the Hebrew people. Study guide issued.
Tuesday- Students will take notes on Hebrew experience with Egypt.
Wednesday- Students will take notes on the establishment of the capital and subsequent Babylonian captivity.
Thursday- Students will take notes on Roman Diaspora
Friday- Students will test on the above.

Study Guide Jan 4 to 8
Please note: As we study the Mid East and the ancient peoples who occupied it, we include the Mesopotamians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Hittites, Hebrews, and other cultures to dwell and/or occupy the land. As we study each culture, we review their technology, government, education and religion. Our purpose is to understand our world today by better understanding the cultures of the past. We will also be studying the Muslim and Christian faith as well as others. Objectivity is always important and prerequisite to our studies. Please call me if you have any questions.
1. Hebrews- Originally, twelve tribes of nomadic herders from Mesopotamia.
2. Monotheism- The belief in one God.
3. Torah- The first five books of the Bible.
4. Prophet- Messengers of God.
5. Exodus- Flight of Hebrews from Egypt.
6. Ten Commandments- Hebrews believed that these were laws which came from God.
7. Abraham- He was said to be the original patriarch.
8. Issac- He was the son of Abraham.
9. Jacob- He was the son of Issac who’s name was changed to “Israel”
10. Israel- The name means “struggler with God”
11. Moses- He led the Hebrews out of Egypt.
12. Bablyon- A Mesopotamian culture which enslaved the Hebrews.
13. David- Jewish King of Israel.
14. Covenant- It is believed to be a promise and relationship between the Hebrews and God.
15. Judah- It was one of the Hebrew tribes from which we get the term Jewish.
16. Canaan- A previous name for the land of Israel.
17. Philistine- Peoples who once dominated what we call Israel today and from where the term Palestine stems from.
18. Diaspora- The dispersion of Jewish people to different parts of the world during Roman occupation.
19. Nebuchadnezzar- Babylonian king who destroyed Solomon’s temple.
20. Solomon- Hebrew king when the initial temple was built. 0 comments
